Against the Current

Living intentionally is vitally important to our Christian journey. Following the unchecked “script” of modern life – without meaningful discernment – does not serve a healthy, vibrant spiritual life. Nowhere do I confront this reality more than in my role as a parent. Every day there seems to be a decision to make about which cultural values I uphold and which of them I challenge.

Christians must swim against the current of pervasive entitlement in our families. Entitlement results from our material successes combined with a general misunderstanding of what truly makes us and our families happy. To put it another way, entitlement is when we misunderstand what we truly need versus what we might want. We begin to believe we deserve what we truly do not. And children – without guidance – will absorb the consumer entitlement culture around us.

The Against the Current worship series centers the struggle for the souls of our life and family. We will examine the culture of entitlement and why we often do not understand what will make us happy. Then we’ll explore the Biblical method for determining what is truly productive for our souls. This series is intended for everyone. But I will particularly address how parents, teachers, grandparents, and mentors can help children lead grateful Christ-centered lives.

In Christ,
Pastor Andrew

I believe gratitude is the basis of our relationship with God and true gratitude transforms us and makes us who we are intended to be.

    Yes… and No
    "Yes... and No"
Sometimes --- in our over-committed lives --- we have to prioritize our obligations and say, "No" to certain things in order to say, "Yes!" to God and family. If we put God first, everything else falls into place.
