Building Design Special Points of Interest

The Lakeside Houston United Methodist Church Phase One Building Project is an 8,700 sq ft multi-purpose building with a worship space that seats 270 people.  The building includes six (6) classrooms available to accommodate Nursery, Preschool, Grade School, Youth and Adult Sunday School classes.  All classrooms will comfortably accommodate around 15 to 18 persons.

The elementary classrooms are separated by a portable wall that can be removed to create a larger room for children's worship.  The project contains a warming kitchen with a range, refrigerator and sink.  Other spaces include men's and women's restrooms, reception area for Sunday Morning fellowship, storage space, custodian closet, mechanical room, an Audio/Visual booth to support worship, and other supporting spaces.

The Parking Lot contains 106 spaces (includes 4 spaces for handicapped persons) in Phase 1, with an additional 81 spaces in Phase 2.  The lot is estimated to allow parking for approximately 400 people once it is fully built out.

Phase 1 is designed to be incorporated into a larger building which will contain additional classrooms, offices, fellowship and worship spaces.  Future phases will continue the combination of flat and sloped roofs with a stone & stucco exterior.  Significant consideration has gone into the Phase 1 design to minimize rework and cost in future building construction.

Maco Construction, Inc. is the General Contractor that the Lakeside Houston United Methodist Church Building Committee has selected to present to the church for approval.  Maco is based in Houston, Texas and is under the leadership of M. A. (Jack) Dudley.  The company has built over 100 churches throughout Texas since the 1980's.  Maco has worked with Lancaster and Associates, the architect, and the Lakeside Building Team to provide an effective, timely, and affordable Phase 1 building.

The total estimated project cost for planning, designing, engineering, constructing, furnishing, permits, and fees the Phase 1 Lakeside Church Building is $1.8 million.  Lakeside has spent to date $128,046.35 in planning, fees and engineering on the project leaving and estimated $1.7 million remaining on the project.

Heartspring Methodist Foundation of the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church made a commitment to finance the construction Phase 1 Building Project of $1,700,000.  Heartspring led the congregation in our Growing Together...Building in Faith Phase 1 Building Campaign.  Through the campaign, the congregation pledge over $472,000.  Once the three year campaign pledges are received, the remaining balance will convert into a 20 year note with Heartspring at a rate not to exceed 6.75%.

Building Update

August 8, 2011

Dear Church Family and Friends,

The excitement continues to build in our church, especially with the Building Committee (BC), as we work on the Phase 1 project – Fellowship Hall, six classrooms, a warming kitchen, an Audio/Video control room, two offices for the Pastor and Administrative staff, and a 75 car parking lot.  To keep you current of our progress, we offer answers to some questions and a more detailed look at our actions and activities.

Where are we on funding the project? How successful was the capital campaign?

We celebrate that we have pledges for more than $500 thousand!  These pledges will fund 1/3 of the proposed project, and we are committed to completing the entire project. We are thus exploring other funding sources, including FUMC Foundation, additional gifts, memorials, and long-term loans.

The BC is sensitive to what is happening in our economy, and we are acutely aware of the concern in our congregation over borrowing money.  We are also sensitive to the tremendous opportunity that we have to grow our church and provide services to both our congregation and our community.
