COVID-19

Our response is being updated and evaluated continually. This page will change as the situation evolves.  Updated 3/13/2020 7:30 PM

Dear Lakeside,

We want to update you on what’s happening at our church in light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. Like you, we’ve been following the news with great concern. Due to a desire to slow the spread of the virus, Lakeside will be moving to online worship only (we will not be meeting at the church) until Humble ISD students return to school (we will reassess what we think is best then). We will also not be holding or hosting any events or groups at Lakeside in the week until we resume worship.

Naturally, this is an evolving situation. In the event that local and state health officials do recommend closure, or we determine it is in the best interest of our Lakeside family to close, we will inform everyone to the best of our abilities through our website, emails, and social media.

Actions Lakeside Is Taking

To minimize the risk of infection, we will be:

  • Worship at the church has been postponed until further notice. We will worship online at 10:30 Sundays.
  • Gatherings have been suspended at the church. Our Facebook Community (page and mainly the groups) is where we are gathering online.
When services resume at Lakeside we will continue to practice safe hygiene by:

  • Sanitizing highly touched surfaces before and after every service such as doors, handles, tables, water fountains, check-in stations, and sinks,
  • Instructing our ushers not to shake hands,
  • Instructing all volunteers to remain home if sick and to wash hands thoroughly,
  • Remove pens and paper from the back of seats,
  • Suggesting non-touching greetings during worship,
  • Asking you to give your weekly giving in an offering basket at the back of the church (No offering plate will be passed during the offering.  Remember, you can also give online),
  • Suspending communion in all services,
  • Offering online Sunday worship bulletins,
  • Suspending taking attendance through pads,
  • Making as much of our classes and services available online as possible.

Changes to Our Ministry Schedule

  • Worship at the church has been postponed until further notice. We will worship online at 10:30 Sundays.
  • Events during the week have been postponed until further notice.

Precautions you can take

During this time, we are asking you to help stop the spread of the virus in the following ways:

  1. Stay at home when you or a family member are sick. If you are over 60 or have a compromised immune system, please consider participating online for worship.
  2. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. (The Lord’s Prayer (said slowly) takes about 20 seconds to say and a wonderful way to remind you of God’s presence) especially after going to the bathroom, before eating and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  3. Cover your sneeze or cough with a tissue or your arm.
  4. Get in the habit of NOT touching your face so often.
  5. Forgo shaking hands at church for a wave, elbow bump, or a friendly smile.
  6. If you or someone you know tests positive for COVID-19, please let us know so we can find a way to help, pray for everyone involved, and take any necessary precautions here at Lakeside.

Church Online

If you or a family member are sick or need to stay home during this time, you are welcome to watch Sunday services online. We’ve got an open spot for you to watch Church Online during our or 10:30 am service on our Facebook Page (www.fb.com/thelakesideumc) or listen to the sermon on our podcast found (https://www.thelakesideumc.org/messages/).

Charge Conference

We are postponing the charge conference to vote to authorize Madison Wentworth’s Ministry Candidacy scheduled for March 15th to a later date to be announced.

Little Learners

Little Learners Day School follows the Humble ISD calendar. Little Learners, like Humble ISD, is closed through March 21. We will continue to close the school if Humble ISD closes, or if we determine it is in the best interest of our school and its children.

Three ways you can help:

  1. Pray – Pray for those impacted by the virus, as well as their families and loved ones. Please include in your prayers the many whose livelihoods are in peril because of cancellations resulting from the virus.
  2. Give Online – Our church is reliant on our weekly giving to pay staff and keep our ministries going. Please consider setting up online giving if you have not (you can do so at https://www.thelakesideumc.org/giving/).
  3. Serve – As we’ve been praying and thinking about ways we can be together for our neighbors in the midst of this outbreak.
