This week, like many of you, I read about the discovery of seven planets in the TRAPPIST-1 system. The Trekkie in me wanted to sit down in my favorite chair and say "Set a course for TRAPPIST-1. Maximum Warp. Engage." I like to keep abreast of advances in science as much as I can. Nevertheless, this discovery amazes me, particularly how many people from all over the world were involved in the discovery. We live in miraculous and inspiring times.
This week we begin a season called lent wherein we reflect on the miracle of miracles - the Resurrection of Christ. Christ's Resurrection means a great deal of things, but on a personal level it means that the power of God is still at work in the world. God is not through with us yet. We aren't finished, and God knows it.
Embrace God's making of you.
Embracing God means committing to His Lordship in your life. That is not easy. It is a powerful thing, because it is a hard thing. Lent offers a time where you can take steps in that direction. In our commitment adverse culture of too little time and too much to do, you might find deep growth in simply committing (and following through) on something like daily prayer and scripture reading or weekly worship. You could, of course, take the more traditional route and sacrifice something for lent by giving it up. We often treat this as a second chance at a New Year's resolution, but the point is really to demonstrate for yourself your commitment to God.
The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.
-- The First Message of Jesus as found in Mark 1:15
Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent, a special time of spiritual preparation before Easter. At Lakeside our prayer is that this is a fruitful time for you and your relationship with God.
We will celebrate Ash Wednesday on March 1st at 6:30 am (very short) and a full service with ashes at 6:30 pm.
Come closer to God this lent.
Come join us for the pancake dinner at 6:30 on Tuesday Feb 28th!
It's Lakeside's 8th birthday this Sunday. We are going to have a cake, food, inflatables and a volleyball rematch between youth and the adults after the 10:30 service!!
Our lent series this year is called Creed. We are going to focus on the basic beliefs of Christians. During that time we will be offering Confirmation for our youth from 6th grade up who have not been confirmed. On Easter Sunday we will confirm and baptize our youth. It is going to be awesome!
Sunday Morning Class
I am going to be teaching a Sunday morning class on "Creed" for those would like an easy way to connect with people and go deeper with their faith. We will have an online form below.
