With the holidays behind us, things are gearing up around Lakeside for the spring. We are looking forward to a great season for the church. I am very excited to share with the church some of the insight into Paul and the passion for his ministry that I found while in Greece and Rome. We will be starting a series this week called In the Footsteps of Paul. If I am able to communicate a small percentage of the awesomeness of what the early church was up to in the decades after Jesus' Resurrection, it will be a great series.
This week at Lakeside
We are relaunching our Mid-Week Ministries for the Spring season. Our potluck is "easy foods" and the kids will begin working on the play for Easter coming up in a few months. Our adult class will continue working through the Bible by focusing on the book of Joshua.
This Friday at 5:30 is our first "Bridge" of the new year. The Bridge is for third through fifth graders. It is a chance to come together with some of our youth and have a ton of fun, a lesson and fellowship.
The Return of the Early Service
This week the early service is returning at 8:30 on Sundays. It will feature the same music as the 10:30, but will have communion every week. The Sunday schedule will be:
8:30 Early service
9:30 Sunday school
10:30 Late Service
For many centuries spring has been the time for the church to focus on discipleship. Traditionally, for example, most baptisms were on Easter and Lent was the time to learn about the faith, fast and prepare for baptism. We are carrying on that tradition at Lakeside.
In the second half of February, for example, we will be offering a Tweens Bible Workshop - a three week class during the Sunday School hour - that will teach the basics of Bible to our tweens. This is replacing the Bible worship we used to do just for third graders.
During Lent this year we will also offer a confirmation class. The class will be open to those young people (6th grade and up) who want to be confirmed. I am really excited about this because it means on Easter will also have the chance to baptize and confirm many of our young people.
