Pastor’s Reading Corner: The Joy of Doing Life Together

Friends,

As I look back on this spring, I find myself filled with gratitude for the privilege of ministry and for the people of Lakeside UMC. One of the great joys of being a pastor is having a front-row seat to God's work in the lives of people, and this season has been full of moments worth celebrating.

So far this year, we have celebrated the baptism of five individuals. Every baptism is a reminder that God is still calling people by name and inviting them into a life of grace. On Confirmation Sunday, we had the privilege of confirming twelve students as they publicly affirmed their faith and took another step in their journey with Christ. It was a powerful reminder that God continues to raise up new generations of disciples.

We also celebrated Mother's Day, honoring the women who nurture, guide, teach, and love so faithfully. A few weeks later, we recognized our graduating seniors. Watching their senior videos reminded me just how quickly time passes and how much growth can happen in a few short years. Many of us have watched these young people grow up in our church, and it is a gift to send them into the next chapter of life surrounded by the prayers and encouragement of their church family.

And the summer is just getting started.

I'm looking forward to our new King of the North youth hangouts, pool parties, and opportunities for students and families to spend time together beyond Sunday mornings. I'm excited for our Family VBS: Snowball Mountain Challenge, where children, youth, parents, and adults will gather to discover the strength God gives us through Christ. I am also eager to begin our new Bible study, Galatians: Gospel Matters, starting in person on June 14 and via Zoom on June 17.

When I look at all these events, I see more than a calendar. I see a community living out the promises we make as United Methodists. Membership in the church is more than attending worship. We commit ourselves to supporting Christ's church with our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. Every baptism, every confirmation class, every youth hangout, every Bible study, every volunteer serving at VBS, every meal shared together is an opportunity to live out those commitments.

The Christian life was never meant to be lived alone. We grow when we pray for one another, encourage one another by showing up, and when we bless others through our generosity and our acts of service. We share Christ through our witness. Together, we become the kind of community that welcomes home all our neighbors to grow in faith and serve Jesus Christ.

Thank you for being part of that mission.

Grace and peace,

Rev. David Johnson

Family VBS Evenings at Snowball Mountain
Find Your Strength in God

Life can feel like a climb sometimes—full of challenges, unknowns, and moments that stretch us. But what if this summer, your family discovered that you don’t have to climb alone?

At Snowball Mountain, we’ll explore the promise of Philippians 4:13:
“I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.”

Family VBS is designed for everyone—kids, youth, and adults—to grow in faith together in a way that’s meaningful, engaging, and fun.

Each evening begins around the table with a shared meal at 5:30 PM—a chance to slow down, connect, and be reminded that we belong to a community.

After the meal, we gather for a high-energy large group experience filled with music, storytelling, and a message that helps us see how God strengthens us for every step of the journey. Then we break out into age-based groups where children, youth, and adults can dive deeper, build friendships, and discover what it looks like to trust God in everyday life. We will end with worship and recap each night.

Whether you’re navigating a busy season, facing something difficult, or simply looking for a place to grow, Snowball Mountain is a space where your family can find strength, encouragement, and hope—together.

Come climb with us. God will meet you every step of the way.

Childrens Ministry Volunteers

Childrens Ministry Volunteers

Lakeside’s Children’s Ministry is a place where faith is planted, curiosity is welcomed, and children are reminded that they are deeply loved by God and by their church family. Each Sunday, we have the joy of walking alongside our youngest disciples as they learn Bible stories, ask big questions, and experience God’s love in age-appropriate and meaningful ways.

We are seeking volunteers who are willing to share their time, care, and encouragement with our children. You don’t need to be a teacher or Bible expert—just someone with a willing heart and a desire to make a difference.

Volunteers help in a variety of ways, including assisting on Sunday mornings, supporting special events, and creating a safe, welcoming environment for kids and families. Schedules are flexible, and training and support are provided.

When you serve in Children’s Ministry, you’re doing more than filling a role—you’re helping shape faith, build confidence, and create a church where families feel at home. Even a small commitment can have a lasting impact.

If you’d like to learn more or are interested in serving, we’d love to talk with you. Please fill out an interest form, reach out to the church office, or speak with a member of the Children’s Ministry team.

Thank you for helping Lakeside be a place where children are known, loved, and encouraged to grow in faith.

Calling Creative Youth: Help Tell the Lakeside Story

Calling Creative Youth: Help Tell the Lakeside Story

Do you have a high school student who loves creating videos, designing graphics, taking photos, or coming up with fun social media ideas? Lakeside is inviting our youth to use their creativity and voice to help shape how we share the story of our church online.

We are launching a Youth Social Media Content Creator Interest opportunity for high school students who want to help create content for Lakeside’s social media platforms. This is a chance for students to:

  • Use their creative gifts in a meaningful, faith-centered way

  • Learn practical skills in content creation, storytelling, and digital communication

  • Be part of a team that helps represent Lakeside to our wider community

  • Earn service hours and gain experience that can be valuable for school, college, or future careers

Youth will never be asked to manage accounts independently or post without adult guidance. This opportunity will be supervised and designed to be fun, collaborative, and age-appropriate.

Parents and students are encouraged to scan the QR code and complete the interest form to let us know who might like to participate. Completing the form does not commit your student—it simply helps us gauge interest and plan next steps.

We believe God has given our youth powerful voices and creative minds. This is one way they can help share faith, joy, and community beyond the walls of the church.
