Stewardship: Rooted, Giving, Growing in 2024Commitment Sunday is November 12, 2023: Save the Date We have kicked off stewardship with our theme: Rooted, Giving, Growing in 2024! Dear Lakeside Family, We are in the season of stewardship. As I was thinking about the connection between stewardship and our faith journey, I thought about Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a German pastor and theologian who stood up to the astrocities of World War 2 and fought for the saftey and rights of non-Aryan Germans. Like United Methodist, he understood his calling to resist evil and oppression in whatever forms they might present. During his ministry he wrote a little book about Christian community called Life Together. In it he has a powerful quote about being a community of faith, he says, "We must be ready to allow ourselves to be interrupted by God. God will be constantly crossing our paths and canceling our plans by sending us people with claims and petitions." Part of being in Christian community is this making of space for what God is calling us to next. It is an act of faith to make space, not just for the plans in front of you, but for the possiblities God might present beyond our field of vision. Stewardship is about how we use our resources to respond to what God is doing in our community already, the needs and opportunities of ministry, and to give to what God may be calling us to next. I invite you to consider your pledge for 2024 in light of the dual reality of our giving. Your gifts fund the ministries and plans we have for Lakeside UMC. But, they also make space for what God may be doing next. That is one way our giving leads to growing in Christ as a community. Grace and Peace, Rev. David Johnson |

Christmas ConcertDecember 10, 2023 Psalm 100 tells us to Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. Serve the LORD with gladness: Come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the LORD he is God: It is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
If you would like to make a joyful noise for Christmas, get ready for our Christmas Concert on December 10th! Heath is looking for singers and musicians to join in the musical fun. Contact Heath if you would like to offer your gifts to Lakeside this Advent season. |
